Around this time last year, we started our Spread The Love Forward Scholarship. It was during the middle of a pandemic when it was a tough time for many that we decided to step it up. We were looking for a meaningful and impactful way to pay it forward to our community. So, we decided to give away $1,000 scholarships to three graduating seniors of Zach's alma mater, Horlick High School in Racine, Wisconsin. It felt so good to support this next generation of young leaders that we knew we had to do it again and make it even better. This year, we awarded five $1,000 scholarships to college-bound students from 3 of Racine's public high schools. This award celebrates the hard work of five exceptional high school students. Aaliyah Smith (Horlick High School): According to her teachers and counselors, Aaliyah is always smiling and lighting up the mood. And she’s a tremendously hard worker who took it upon herself to graduate high school a semester early while working part time. Congrats and best of luck while studying at Clark Atlanta University in the fall!
Ashanti Smith (Horlick High School): Ashanti can do it all! This amazing student athlete has been focused on maintaining a high GPA while playing basketball, being accepted into the Junior National Honor Society and receiving a Presidential Award. She will also be attending Clark Atlanta University in the fall with her sister, Aaliyah.
Deja McDonald (Horlick High School): Deja doesn't let anything stop her. She has been dedicated to learning about healthcare for the last two years. One example of her dedication that caught our attention was when a group project in Medical Interventions fell apart. So Deja stepped up and completed the entire project herself. Deja will have no problem getting the work done when she studies Radiology at Milwaukee Area Technical College later this year.
Khush Patel (Case High School): Like the other recipients of this year’s scholarship, Khush Spreads The Love Forward with this volunteer work. His experience spans from a 2019 Medical Mission where he provided medical care to people without healthcare to making (and then donating) masks in the middle of the pandemic. Khush will be studying Biology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Good job!
Yaritza Pulido (Park High School): Yaritza is a super volunteer. In her free time, she helps her neighbors shovel snow, water their gardens and walks the beach picking up trash. And she wants to continue helping people, which is why she will be attending Gateway Technical College (Kenosha, Wisconsin) this fall as she pursues a career in Neonatal Nursing.
