Food For The Gods are normally given as special presents during the holiday season in the Philippines.  The ingredients are not easy to get and very expensive in the Philippines so to get them means you are very special. However, we are here in California where there is an abundance of dates and walnuts. So here is our version that you can make as edible gifts for special friends and family whether there is holiday or not. We also made it paleo-friendly by using vegan butter and cassava flour. 

Paleo Food Of The Gods


  • 1 Cup Dates Pitted and Steeped in Boiling Water for 30 minutes
  • 1 Cup Melted Vegan Butter
  • 1/4 Cup Spread The Love® UNSALTED Almond Butter
  • 3/4 Cup Coconut Sugar
  • 1 1/4 Cup Cassava Flour
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Fine Sea Salt
  • 1 Cup Chopped Walnuts
  • 6 Extra Dates Pitted and Cut in Half
  • Coconut Oil Spray


  • Food Processor
  • 12 Cup Square Muffin Pan or Regular Circular one will do
  • You can also use an 8x8 baking pan as well.


  • Step 1
    Pre-Heat oven to 350 degrees. Spray your muffin pan with coconut oil spray and set to the side until the batter is ready.
  • Step 2
    Drain all the water out of the dates and place in the food processor with the melted butter. Process until nice and smooth. Add in the almond butter and coconut sugar. Process for about 30 seconds until nice and smooth again.
  • Step 3
    Add in the cassava flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Process again until smooth. Take the blade out of the food processor and add in the chopped walnuts. Mix well.
  • Step 4
    Spoon in the batter in the muffin tins and top with a date half. Bake in the oven for 20-25 minutes until nice and golden brown. Leave to cool in the tin for 5 minutes and then transfer to a wire rack.
  • Step 5 - Note
    We did not include this in the ingredients list, but you can also add some edible gold flakes to the top to take it even more over the top.
